Reconfigured for a second event
After the London 2012 Olympic Games, the venues were reconfigured for the Paralympic Games within a short turnaround. Mojo Barriers handled the changeover with barriers from its own large stock.
Sustainability
Mojo barriers are made to be used again and again: reconfigured for each site, light to handle and compact to transport.
Our approach
Mojo Barriers aims to keep the environmental impact of its products as low as it can, and every product is designed with that aim. The sections are strong and reconfigurable, so they stay in service for a long time and are reused from event to event and from one site to the next.
The stage barriers are designed for economic transport and low weight; the move from steel to lighter aluminium in 1998 is part of Mojo Barriers' timeline. The current generation, the Mojo Barrier® G3, was developed with a focus on sustainability.

Reuse

Sundown Festival and Reload Festival in Norfolk ran on two weekends with an almost identical barrier configuration. Reusing the layout kept costs down and left only small changes between the events.
At Snowbombing in Mayrhofen, Austria, the barrier line was moved and reconfigured every day. Bar Barriers were set up and taken down again for temporary bars throughout the festival.
Transport
Mojo Barrier sections fit together in carts of ten or twelve, which lowers transport costs. Stainless steel carts carry the sections and stack for transport and storage.
Tools, bolts and small parts come with every order. They travel in flight cases, with nuts and bolts sorted into pink boxes.
The Mojo Bar Barrier is flat-packed and stackable, so the units take up little room in transport. They travel on special pallets.
On tour
Mojo's touring barrier, introduced in 2012, came out of Mojo Barriers' research and development programme after 18 months of development and testing, both externally and in-house. The new, slightly lighter touring barrier made its debut on Madonna's MDNA Tour, with more units on every standard dolly.
20 % less space in trucks and storage
The touring barrier fitted 12 sections on a standard dolly instead of 10, saving truck space and crew, and the Finnish distributor set it up on sand and slopes.
12 per dolly, not 10
Kylie Minogue's tour carried 160 m of touring barrier from venue to venue, so no barriers had to be rented from local suppliers at each stop.
160 m on tour
Up to 15 % more barrier fitted into each load, so the 470 m of touring barrier needed only one truck.

On Bruno Mars' tour, the light and compact touring barrier travelled with the rest of the production, with no local rental needed.

Local stock
Mojo Barriers developed a network of offices, distributors and depots, so barrier stock has a shorter way to each event. That network lowers transport costs and brings service from a local team.
From the US office in Pennsylvania, customers could send one truck to collect stage, PA and barriers in a single trip.
A new distributor in the south-eastern United States reduced shipping costs for events there.

“As a company we are making our own efforts to operate sustainably and we were delighted to be able to support an environmental project like Live Earth.”

Materials
Aluminium
The barrier sections are made of aluminium: strong, yet light enough to handle and transport with a small crew. Aluminium is a material that can be recycled.
Recycled LMDPE
A bar front for bars and stands at events, made of recycled plastic. It is not a crowd control barrier.
Aluminium and polycarbonate
Reinforced aluminium sections with a polycarbonate upper panel that is UV-resistant and impact-resistant, for a durable perimeter.
FAQ
How the barriers are checked for safety is covered under health and safety.
Straight Sections travel on stainless steel carts of ten or twelve: ten G1 or G3 sections, or twelve G2 sections, per cart. For other loads and sites, two dollies differ in load and handling:
| Dolly | Load and handling |
|---|---|
| Dolly 10 | Up to ten aluminium sections lying flat, also corners, Flex and Vario pieces · 1.13 × 1.34 × 1.17 m · stacks three high · loaded and unloaded by two crew members |
| Dolly 5 | Five barriers, or Snake Gates and Vario Corners · 0.59 × 1.30 × 1.22 m · not stackable · moved by one person, for halls with little storage space or narrow access |
Before and after each event, every barrier is checked by hand, both structurally and for its appearance. In 2011, for example, much of the material had just come back from muddy festivals and was made ready in the London warehouse for the launch of Westfield Stratford City.
