One principle, three generations

3D view: a line of straight sections from the front
01 / 04 · Principle

A stage barrier held in place by the crowd

Each section is an aluminium upright on a floor plate, with braces at the back. It is designed so that the crowd standing on the floor plate holds the barrier down, whilst the braces take up the pressure from the front. Lines of these barriers, the core of the Mojo stage barrier range, run in front of the stage at concerts, festivals and stadium shows.

02 / 04 · Rear step

A rear step for security staff

A rear step sits behind the upright, between the braces. From there, security staff have a clear view of the crowd and direct physical access to it. The space behind the upright and the step height differ slightly from one generation to the next.

03 / 04 · Connection

Joined into one level line

Sections join end to end on the 1.00 m grid and form a continuous, level barrier line. Location pins align each connection, also on uneven ground. How the sections are fixed to each other is slightly upgraded with the latest generation.

G1, G2 and G3

All three generations follow the same principle on the 1.00 m grid and differ only by a few centimetres. The G1 and G3 also come as a 0.50 m section for shorter runs in the line. The table below compares them value by value.

In numbers

Four numbers, one barrier line

Whichever generation stands in front of the stage, the barriers share one grid and differ only by a few centimetres.

All generations

Grid length

Lines are planned in whole metres, whichever generation is used.

Short section

The G1 and G3 also come as a 0.50 m section for shorter runs in the line; the G3 half section weighs 24 kg.

Floor space

Depth

The floor space a line takes up from the crowd side to the rear: 1.25 m for the G1 and G3, 1.28 m for the G2.

Tested load

TÜV Nederland tested specimens of the G1 and G2, TÜV NORD those of the G3, each at 5,000 N/m.

Certification

Independently tested

Each generation of the Straight Section has its own certificate from a body of the TÜV NORD Group. For the G1 and G2, TÜV Nederland QA tested strength, tipping and sliding at 5,000 N/m without deformation. For the G3, TÜV NORD Nederland confirmed the 5 kN/m requirement of section 7.5 of "Temporary Demountable Structures", 4th edition, Institution of Structural Engineers. Each certificate applies only to the tested specimens.

Two earlier TNO reports document the tests on the steel barrier of 1996 and on the aluminium prototype of 1998 that led to the G1. All documents are on the certification page.

MOJO Rental, named on the G3 certificate, is part of the MOJO Holding Group, like Mojo Barriers BV.

FAQ

Questions about the Mojo Barrier

Two contacts, depending on the question:

  • Number of sections and hire for your event: the rental company in your country
  • Data sheets and certificates: Mojo Barriers BV

It is the straight element that most of a Mojo barrier line consists of, standing between the stage and the audience. A line of these crowd control barriers can run for many metres, and corners, gates and doors complete it wherever the layout of the venue needs them. Read more on how a Mojo Barrier® works.

The name Mojo Barrier is widely used in the industry as a generic term for aluminium stage barriers. It goes back to Mojo Barriers BV, which grew out of Mojo Concerts in the Netherlands and began with steel barriers in 1988.

The 1.00 m grid keeps the count simple:

  • one section per metre of barrier line, in every generation
  • with the G1 and G3, a half metre is covered by the 0.50 m section
  • example: 24 m need 24 sections, 24.5 m need 24 sections plus one 0.50 m section

Corners and gates come on top; the rental company will check the full layout.

The certificates name the modules tested together with each Straight Section. On them, the G1 and G2 carry the titles MOJO G1 Barrier Alu and MOJO G2 Barrier Alu.

ModuleGeneration
Straight 0.50 mG1, G3
Vario & Flex CornersG1, G2, G3
Fixed Corners 22.5° and 45°G1
Snake Runner & Snake GateG1
Cable GateG3

A certificate applies only to the tested specimens and does not by itself ensure that a whole line is safe on site; that also depends on layout, ground and set-up.

  • the length of the line, including any half metres (G1 and G3)
  • the corners and their angles
  • openings for crew and cables: Snake Runner, Snake Gate or Cable Gate
  • the ground at the venue
  • the crowd safety plan of the event, drawn up by the organiser and the crowd manager
  • the day of set-up and the dates of the event

Mojo Barriers BV does not sell its barriers. They are hired through the rental companies of the MOJO Holding Group; for data sheets and certificates, contact our team.
