First use at a music festival
Graspop, held from 27 to 30 June 2013, was the first music event to use the new Gatekeeper. Eighteen Gatekeepers controlled entry and exit for a 45,000-capacity crowd, with Twisted Sister, Iron Maiden and Slipknot among the headliners.
Gatekeeper manages entry to and exit from events, festivals, venues and designated areas such as VIP, staff-only and camping zones.
Turnstile plus scanning
The portable turnstile links to a central computer system that gives capacity data and real-time counts. It has full scanning capabilities and works with any scanning method.
With the rise of RFID, QR codes, barcodes and mobile phone ticketing … there was a requirement from clients for a hardware solution which hosted these technologies.
Gatekeeper suits standalone greenfield events as well as venues that want to add to their existing entrance systems. Combined with the standard Mojo Barrier® system, it forms a segregation line with entrance points and emergency exits.
Wristbands from Playpass
For Graspop, Mojo Barriers worked with the Belgian company Playpass, which provided RFID wristbands for festival-goers, staff, press and artists. Its scanners were fitted to the Gatekeeper system: a complete entrance control system with instant data on crowd movement across the event.
For me it’s not ‘if’ this is going to become more popular, it’s ‘when’.
