A festival theme at Hampden Park
From Kylie to Lulu, the closing ceremony of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games on 3 August 2014 had a star-studded line-up. Mojo Barriers was contracted by Jack Morton, the agency the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee entrusted to design and deliver the entire show.
The ceremony at Hampden Park had a festival theme. It opened with a fireworks display before major international performers took to the stage alongside local community acts and special guests.
A barrier line shaped like a shooting star
The show was set on a main stage linked to a B-stage by a 25-metre catwalk, designed to look like a giant shooting star. Over 249 metres of Mojo's silver aluminium barrier encircled the whole stage, including the five-point star. It separated the stage from the audience and gave security staff ample room to move around.
Film crews broadcast the event live around the world to an audience of over 7.7 million. They needed clear, spacious access to their camera angles, and the barrier had to be of the highest quality and look right in the broadcast footage.
18 hours from athletics to ceremony
Jack Morton and its selected suppliers had only 18 hours to transform Hampden Park, which had hosted the Glasgow 2014 track and field events just hours before.
This was an intricate configuration and a true showcase of the flexibility of the Mojo Barrier® system. This complexity simply wouldn't be possible with straight sections only so we deployed a large amount of our 'specials' such as vario and flex corners.
A GPS system logged the exact position of each barrier, so the crew could load in quickly and efficiently. With such a fast turnaround, that was vital.
… Jack Morton and Glasgow 2014 put on an amazing show, and we were very proud to be a part of it.
