Back in Rotterdam after 1997
Mojo Barriers was asked to supply and set up the main stage crowd barrier, the perimeter High Fence and the red carpet barrier for the MTV EMAs at Rotterdam Ahoy on 6 November 2016.
Hosted by Bebe Rexha, the 2016 ceremony returned to Rotterdam, which had previously hosted it in 1997. Mojo Barriers set up a crowd barrier configuration both inside and outside the venue.
Stage barrier and a media pit
Stanley Jilesen and a team of six set up over 650 metres of aluminium barrier throughout the venue. More than 250 metres lined the main 'infinity' stage and the B-stage, created by set designer Julio Himede, where Kings of Leon, Afrojack, OneRepublic and Bruno Mars performed.
Over 100 metres of crowd barrier formed a media pit within the standing audience, keeping the broadcast cameras on floor tracks apart from the crowd. The whole audience kept clear sightlines, and the broadcasters could film every live performance. Black barriers were used throughout the venue to blend in with the set and look better on TV.
High Fence and the red carpet
Outside the venue, Mojo supplied its Mojo High Fence as 50 metres of sightline kill extensions, adding 2.4 metres of opaque height to protect the privacy of VIP guests arriving past the crowds outside. Over 250 metres of crowd barrier lined the perimeter of the front entrance for safe, smooth ingress and egress.
In front of the venue, a temporary structure housed the red carpet area. Over 190 metres of Mojo crowd barrier separated media and fans from the arriving artists, presenters and nominees. Each barrier section carried MTV EMA and sponsor logos to match the event branding.
Continuing our longstanding relationship working with the MTV EMAs, Maggie Mouzakitis and the wider production team, we were delighted to welcome such a great event to work on back to our home country. It is a pleasure to work on a project which each year pushes boundaries of creative production and we relish the opportunity to enhance the experience for the audience and keep them as safe as possible.
