From Liverpool to Zurich

Kylie Minogue was the latest artist to tour Europe with Mojo Barriers' G2, a barrier designed specifically for touring. In total, 160 metres of the system kept crowds safe at the European dates of her Kiss Me Once tour.

When the tour opened in the UK, Mojo set up 80 metres for the front of stage at the Liverpool Echo Arena. Another 80 metres were then added, bringing the total to 160 metres for the European leg, which ended on 17 November at Zurich's Hallenstadion.

Golden circle, thrust and a black finish

The barriers, a mix of straight sections and specials such as corners and gates, let the production team led by Kevin Hopgood create a golden circle, a T-shaped thrust for a catwalk and an extended front of house. At Hopgood's request, Mojo provided a custom powder-coated black system to fit the look of the show.

Mojo had worked with Kevin Hopgood for ten years, and that experience and good communication meant the project ran without a hitch.

Working closely with Mojo means we can tour a barrier system that is both specific to our technical needs for crowd safety but also is creatively coherent with the overall look of the show. …

A barrier that travels with the show

Kevin Thorborn of Mojo Barriers oversaw the project from the design stage. The G2 had been launched for Madonna's MDNA tour in 2012.

Our G2 barrier system was the ideal system for Kylie's tour, ensuring the same levels of safety are delivered across Europe. The barriers are being transported along with the show's other production elements, negating the need to rent barriers from local suppliers at each venue.

It was designed specifically for the touring industry, launched just over two years ago for Madonna's MDNA tour. It's proven extremely popular since then due to the benefits it brings production teams – namely the fact that it is lighter, more compact and allows easier and therefore more cost efficient transportation and installation.

The contract followed a busy touring season for Mojo Barriers, supplying artists including Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Lenny Kravitz.
